NCAA basketball coaches fight at MSG

Tempers flared at Madison Square Garden in New York between two of the Big East basketball rivalries that were fighting to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Speaking of fighting, that’s almost what happened between St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin, Georgetown head coach John Thompson III and assistant coach Patrick Ewing Jr.

After a hard foul was called on Red Storm forward Amar Alibegovic when he stopped L.J. Peak driving to the hoop, Peak jumped up and got in his opponent’s face. That’s when things escalated and boiled over with Mullin charging toward the Georgetown bench, giving Thompson an earful of words we probably can’t print here.

Mullin who was born and raised in Brooklyn and played college ball for St. John’s in Queens, got the MSG jacked up during the incident.

Here’s a look at the incident on video:

While Alibegovic was called for a flagrant foul, Mullin and Ewing Jr. were hit with technicals.

Both Thompson and Mullin downplayed the incident after the game.

“Coaches were coaching hard. I think it’s just the heat of the battle. It’s just competition, man.” – Georgetown Coach Thompson

Mullin also attributed the incident to adrenaline and competitiveness.

“It was just really competitive juices flowing towards the end of the game there.” – St. John’s coach Mullin

Yeah, both coaches may have been downplaying the incident but social media blew it up.

BTW, St. John’s won the thriller 74-73 and it was Mullin’s first tournament win as a head coach.

NHL rookie Ho-Sang and No. 66

No. 66 scored his first NHL goal!

Not the famous No. 66, Mario Lemieux. We’re talking about New York Islanders’ 21-year-old rookie, Joshua Ho-Sang who wears the same number and has been going through hell for it.

Ho-Sung scored his the goal in a recent 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers, but every story you find goes on to talk about him accomplishing the feat wearing No. 66 on his back.

Ho-Sang, a first round pick by the Islanders in 2014, and his No. 66 has made headlines since he took the ice. Regarding league-wide retired numbers, the NHL retired Wayne Gretzky’s No. 99 league-wide, like the MLB retired Jackie Robinson’s No. 42, but Lemieux’s No. 66 is still fair game for players around the league. But only a few have donned it.

Of those players, Vancouver Canucks’ Gino Odjick and Philadelphia Flyers’ Yanick Dupre wore it while Lemieux was still playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since then, few have gone to the No. 66 sacred ground. One was Calgary Flames defenseman TJ Brodie who wore it as a rookie for three games in the 2010-11 season. He received so much criticism , he swapped out to No. 7 the following season.

Ho-Sang seems to be standing firm on his choice, defending it and calling it a sign of ultimate respect towards Lemieux. In a recent interview, Ho-Sang said:

“I wore it in junior and no one ever really bugged me about it. Then I get to the NHL and it’s like a really big deal.”

Well, we know how social media creates a hashtag and takes off with it so we’ll see how this plays out. Will the 21-year-old kid from Toronto buckle under pressure like TJ Brodie did, or will he stand his ground?

Be interesting to see how the Penguins’ fans respond when the Islanders take the ice in Pittsburg on March 24th.

Rams Westbrooks busted (mugshot)

Ethan Westbrooks mugshot

Sacramento police say that Los Angeles Rams’ defensive lineman, Ethan Westbrooks, was busted on Sunday night after accusations of domestic violence.

Cops say they were called to the 8700 block of Center Parkway at 9:06 p.m. Sunday regarding a dispute. After arrival, police said they saw visible injuries to a woman’s body.

The 26-year—old Westbrooks was not at the location so police went to another nearby residence on Clearbrook Way where they cuffed and booked the NFL player on suspicion of domestic violence. Westbrooks left the jail the following morning.

The Rams released the cliché statement that sounds like most of the others we’ve heard from NFL teams over the years,

“We are aware of the serious allegations involving Ethan Westbrooks. We are in contact with authorities and gathering more information. Per team policy, we will continue to respect the legal process and have no further comment at this time.”

Westbrooks is currently a free agent after playing in all 16 games last season for the Rams while tallying two sacks and 24 tackles.

Westbrooks’ mugshot is pictured here. For more sports arrests and mugshots, go to our Jocks Behind Bars website here.

LeBron James Jr. – Like father, like son

LeBron James has cemented a place in NBA history as being one of the most dominating players in the league’s history. But wait! According to recent comments made by King James, he may be sharing some of that spotlight with another ‘James’ in the far future. The other ‘James’ is LeBron’s 12-year-old son, LeBron James Jr.

Scouts and insiders are already saying LeBron James Jr. has a promising future in basketball, in fact, last summer ESPN reported that the youngster already has offers from Kentucky and Duke.

Junior has been putting on a show on the court with his dribbling, passing and shooting abilities, so yeah, it’s truly looking like one of those epic, ‘Like father, like son’ things is evolving here.

Videos are popping up all around the internet. Here’s one on YouTube that has almost 1.4 million views that showcases junior throwing a hurt on opposing players:

So what’s James Sr. think about all the hype surrounding his son?

According to Cleveland Plain-Dealer writer Chris Fedor, James Sr. said junior’s aspects of the game are better than his were when he was the same age. James also said he didn’t handle the ball as well as junior does at that age and his son actually shoots better than he did as well.

Before you think this is just a typical proud father praising his son scenario, watch Junior own the court, leaving opponents frozen on drives to the hoop, threading the needle on long passes and hitting long range jumpers like you-know-who. Then you’ll probably join the rest of us and go all-in to the hype.

I wonder if the kid will incorporate LeBron’s chalk ritual before the games…

Conor McGregor, you a b**ch – Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is retired from boxing with a 49-0 record but he’s jonesing to get back into the ring. Not that ring. A ring in the octagon shape and he’s not being shy about pushing the issue.

Mixed martial arts expert, Conor McGregor (21-3, 18 KO), is the reigning UFC lightweight champion and Mayweather is aggressively going after his belt.

In a recent interview with Sky SPORTS Mayweather went off on another one of his patented rants, challenging McGregor.

“The difference between me and him is. He has to fight,” said Mayweather. “If I was him and I was smart, before I lose again in the UFC I’d let Floyd Mayweather kick my ass for a lot of money. It makes business sense.”

Mayweather went on to say he’s typing up a contract and faxing it over to McGregor to sign.

That’s a shocker…people still actually use fax machines?

McGregor and Mayweather have been at it for about eight months but with Mayweather getting more aggressive as of late, we may be seeing some activity on the negotiations for the fight.

While Mayweather said the fight is definitely a possibility, he just couldn’t end it there without throwing another offensive shot at the Irishman, saying:

“Conor McGregor, you a bitch.” – Mayweather Jr.

McGregor is experienced enough to know mindless trash talk when he hears it so we doubt if that is gonna rile up the Irishman. With Mayweather notorious for dancing his way through many championship fights, we wish Mayweather would ‘ve thrown as many shots in the ring as he has on this trek to coax McGregor into the ring.

Tom Brady admits he supports racist Trump

New England QB Tom Brady spent last offseason in the courtroom after being accused of cheating in Deflate Gate and now he made headlines again. . . this time when a reporter spotted a Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker.

For those of you who have been living in a cave, that slogan has been adopted by presidential candidate, Donald Trump. You know, the accused bigot, racist, loudmouth who also has the support of KKK leader David Duke, teabaggers and far right wing conservative freaks.

When asked about Duke, Trump refused to condemn the controversial racist, maybe because it’s another lone vote and he needs all the support he can get.  When Brady was first asked about  Trump, he sidestepped the question, but this time he couldn’t.

Because this photo of a Trump supporter cap that was in his locker was published in social media…

Brady has become a PR nightmare for the team but it’s Brady, so no matter how he responds to anything at this point of his career, it’ll be forgotten and forgiven by his team and the fans of New England.

For the rest of the NFL fan base in the country, they may just look at it as another reason to hate Brady and the Patriots.

EA NHL 2016 removes Kane from cover

Chicago Blackhawks player Patrick Kane has been removed from the EA NHL 2016 game cover after rape allegations against him surfaced.

This is the original photo showing captain Jonathon Toews with Kane hoisting the Stanley Cup:

And this is the replacement cover of Toews solo and Kane eliminated:

This isn’t the first time Kane has made arrest headlines. In a past incident, he was busted and accused of assaulting a cab driver.

During the rape accusation and investigation, police came to Kane’s house in the middle of the night to gather evidence. This set off a flurry of bantering from two sides.

Some described the accuser of being a money-grubbing whore looking for a payday. While people on the opposite side of the fence used Kane’s party-bro image and past arrest history to assume he must have done something wrong.

Some witnesses said they saw him that night and he was almost fall-down drunk. Others say the woman was hanging all over him and blocking other women from getting close to the NHL star.

No matter who you believe, it may be time to send a message to Kane . . . may be time to get off the sauce, bro.

Peterson avoids jail with plea deal

Minnesota Vikings star running back Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault under the deal District Judge Kelly Case approved. Remember that a no contest plea is NOT an admission of guilt but is treated like a guilty plea when sentencing.

Know what, we are still baffled A.P. was arrested. Spanking kids is allowed. But leaving marks definitely deserves to be investigated. Authorities in Tex-ass could’ve investigated properly and learned that Peterson is a loving dad that was doing what he thought was best, disciplining his child like he was disciplined growing up. Then he could have gone back to work without a court hassle.

Texas judge William Adams got away without charges after beating of his daughter and that brutal assault was caught on tape. Watch here and see how hypocritical the judicial system in Texas is:

Counseling Peterson could have “broken this chain” of spanking versus other disciplining and this would not have separated him from his child over the time of these hearings.

Instead, Peterson was indicted in September on a felony charge of injury to a child for using a switch to discipline his 4-year-old son earlier this year in suburban Houston. Imagine if he would have stood in front of Judge Adams!

”I stand here and I take full responsibility for my actions. I love my son more than anyone of you could even imagine.” – Peterson

Don’t rest too easy NFL defenses, because A.P. will be back to work in the future.

Jose Canseco shoots himself….in the hand

Former MLB ‘roid juicer Jose Canseco is recovering after shooting himself in the hand. Local police said the incident occurred in his Las Vegas home.

Canseco told cops he was cleaning his gun in the kitchen, where everyone with common sense cleans their weapons (#Sarcasm) when the gun went off. Hey, Gun Cleaning 101, CHECK THE ASSURE ONE IS NOT IN THE CHAMBER, IDIOT!

Canseco played for the Oakland Athletics where he was known as one of the “Bash Brothers” and too many other teams to list.

After leaving baseball, he later threw the league and his fellow players under the bus when he inked his steroid exposing 2005 book called, “Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big.”

After the controversy of the book settled he went into another venture, celebrity boxing as shown here boxing Danny Bonaduce from the Partridge Family on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009.

NFL sack celebrations

Our Bitch Slap of the Week goes to NFL sack celebrations because once appears to not be enough.

After the Detroit Lions linebacker Stephan Tulloch ended his season with a self-inflicted sack dance injury, tearing his ACL, weeks later Chicago Bears Lamarr Houston did the same thing.

These two guys should spend the rest of NFL Sundays on the same couch, watching what they’re missing and arguing who is the bigger idiot. The inventor or the copier.

Houston’s injury may go down as the owrst since he leaves a defense that resembles swiss cheese.

The Lions somehow have found a way to become the No. 1 defense in the NFL without Tulloch, one of their leaders on defense.

Did Tulloch dance himself out of a job?

Unlikely but it is the NFL and only time will tell.

Stupid is what stupid does…
