Larry Johnson Signs With Bengals

CINCINNATI – ESPN reported that running back Larry Johnson and his excessive baggage landed in Cincinnati after signing a one-year deal. (AP Photo/Dick Whipple, File)

Bengals’ coach Marvin Lewis told Johnson he will be fourth on the depth chart behind injured Cedric Benson and the remaining running back core.

The 7-2 division-leading Bengals signed Johnson as an
insurance policy and are only responsible for only about 255K of his salary this year.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the financial losers in this scenario as they are obligated to fork over approximately $4 million to a player who hasn’t produced any impressive on-field numbers over the past few years; just a lot of off-field stress and distractions.

The latest news from the Bengals’ camp concerning Benson’s injury is that he is expected to play this weekend.

Bears’ Jay Cutler Leads 49ers to Victory

SAN FRANCISCO – Jay Cutler is starting to hear it from the Chicago media and fans after throwing five interceptions last night, the final one coming in the San Fran end zone on the final play of the game, gift-wrapping a 10-6 win to the San Francisco Bears Quarterbacks49ers.

A disgruntled Cutler was obtained from the Denver Broncos for Kyle Orton and two #1 draft picks then was signed to a franchise quarterback-type contract. Cutler has not lived up to expectations to say the least.

The Bears organization should install a revolving door for their quarterbacks. Grossman, Orton, Griese, Quinn, Hutchinson.

How many slingers have Da Bears had over the recent years?

Here’s a funny video of that million-mile-per-hour fast-talking guy rattling off the laundry list.

Back to the Cutler experiment . . . the future is looking dim in the early stages.

The Bears may have felt they were dumping another dreadful arm by moving Orton but halfway through the season, Cutler leads the NFL with 17 picks while Orton has thrown just 5 all season.

Under Orton, the Broncos sit at the top of the AFC West with a 6-2 record while Da Bears are struggling at 4-5.

Falcons’ Tony Gonzalez & Wife Naked in PETA Ad?

ATLANTA – Snatching catches from Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan isn’t the only endeavor NFL all-pro tight end Tony peta-adGonzalez has gotten involved in lately.

Gonzalez and his wife October may have posed nude for a PETA ad that promotes nudity over wearing fur.

“We should be protecting animals, not sacrificing their lives for the sake of fashion or luxury,” said Gonzalez in a recent interview. “October and I have changed many of our habits in light of the inhumane treatment of animals that occurs not only in the fur industry but also on factory farms.”

Maybe this gesture by the NFL superstar will be considered somewhat of a make-up and peace treaty to PETA.

The organization has shown bitterness and animosity toward the NFL after the league allowed Michael Vick to play after he was convicted and served time for running a dog-fighting ring.

NFL Mid-Week Hottest News

The Seattle Seahawks started cleaning house this week after their underachieving 2-5 start. Falling victim to the axe edgerrin-jameswas running back Edgerrin James along with defensive backs Travis Fisher and C.J. Wallace.

After a successful run in Indianapolis and a trip to last year’s Super Bowl with the Arizona Cardinals, James suddenly finds himself in the unemployment line just months after signing with the Seahawks.

In St. Louis, Rams’ return specialist Danny Amendola was limited to riding a stationary bicycle during the team’s practice on Tuesday while he still tries to clear the cobwebs from a vicious hit by Detroit Lions Zack Follett during Sunday’s 17-10 victory in Detroit.

Amendola said he “He didn’t remember leaving the field” and rookie head coach Steve Spagnuola also commented on Amendola’s condition, “He cleared [his head] within two days. Usually if it takes a little bit longer, then you get a concern. He still has some symptoms so they’re not taking any chances.”

Here’s the hit here:

In legal news, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell approached Congress, asking them to intervene and protect the league from state laws that are hampering the league from suspending players who fail drug tests, like the Starcaps case currently being battled in the courts.

“You don’t want to have 435 members of Congress writing a law that would have in any way some immediate conduct and effect on your players,” Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., told Goodell. “You don’t want us to get involved in this. You can’t tell what members of Congress will ultimately do once you open up this Pandora’s Box.”

Yeah, like actually enforcing the rules and testing all the obvious steroid abusers in the league and suspending them for several games or even seasons at a time.

Watch what you wish for Mr. Goodell and if you have any doubts, give MLB Commissioner Selig a quick text so he can talk a little sense into you.

Bitch-Slap-of-the-Week – Rush Limbaugh

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh just got knocked out of contention of buying the NFL St. Louis Rams.

Dave Checketts who heads the investment group interested in buying the Rams said Limbaugh’s participation Limbaugh had become a complication in the group’s efforts and the bid will move forward without him.

When it was first announced that Limbaugh would be involved in a bid, a large portion of the mainstream media, the NFLPA and some NFL players opposed the shock-jock being involved as an owner in the league and it appears that Checketts may have caved in to the pressure.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was one of the latest to jump on that  bandwagon. When asked to comment on some of the racially-sensitive remarks made in the past by Limbaugh, Goodell said, “I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL –- absolutely not.”

One has to wonder though if Checketts who currently owns the NHL St. Louis Blues does get the bid and buys the Rams, what would stop him from allowing Limbaugh to get involved once he is the owner.

Time will tell if Checketts’ association with Limbaugh who has a history of drug arrest and has made remarks deemed racist over the years, will crush his chances of obtaining the team.

Oakland Raiders Coach May Be Facing NFL Suspension for Assault

OAKLAND – The accusations are now public about Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable. His defensive assistant, Randy Hanson tom-cablespoke with media about what he told police investigators concerning Tom Cable’s part in breaking Hanson’s jaw.

Although the NFL isn’t ready to make an announcement of its own findings, unless there is something to contradict the very stark facts from Hanson’s account of the incident the league is expected to punish Cable.

The question is how. Will it be a fine, suspension or both?

Since the coaches don’t have a union, there won’t be formatted procedures available to Cable such as a hearing or an appeals process.

Here is what Randy Hanson told Yahoo! Sports that was reported this weekend: “From my blindside, Tom Cable threw me from my chair and into a piece of furniture that a lamp sat upon. He was screaming, ‘I’ll f— kill you! I’ll f— kill you!’ And I have no reason to believe he wouldn’t have killed me if they hadn’t pulled him away. If my head would’ve hit a different way, I might be dead right now.”

Yahoo! reported that three of Hanson’s colleagues corroborated his story.

It is unclear if the Raiders’ owner Al Davis will have the ability to protect his coach from the wrath of Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Hanson has been quoted previously as admitting his close relationship with his owner. Thus it’s hard to believe that Davis will go to bat for Cable.

Goodell’s stance will be buttressed by the decision of the Napa Valley authorities to charge Cable with a crime.

Once that happens, which sounds likely, the coach will be exposed to how the league treats players who collide with the criminal process.

Players will look to the commissioner to be even handed about the league’s personal conduct policy. Cable, who hasn’t spoken on the subject since August has presided over a 1-4 start to the season. The team will hard pressed to argue that it will suffer on the field if their coach disappears for a while.

NFL Should Slam and Lock the Door on Rush Limbaugh

When Rush Limbaugh’s name surfaced as a potential owner of the NFL St. Louis Rams, many of us cringed at the limbaughthought of a man who has been interpreted to be a racist being involved at such a high level in the league.

For those living in a cave and not aware of Limbaugh and his radio show, here are some of the quotes the shock-jock is said to have made:

Limbaugh: “Look, let me put it to you this way: The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”

Limbaugh: “I think it’s time to get rid of this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association and stop calling them teams. Call ‘em gangs. Let ‘em strap up out there [carry guns], and let ‘em market their CD’s.”

Many people look at Limbaugh as a hypocrite. While he implies the men who play these sports are thugs, he has a criminal history of his own. Limbaugh’s mugshot from his drug arrest sits sandwiched between NBA Alan Iverson and NFL badboy Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones in the Sports Climax Sports Mugshot Gallery.

The Today Show did a segment recently asking if Limbaugh is getting a free pass for skirting any serious aftermath after the radio jock featured a song “Barack the Magic Negro” on another of his shows. (see on YouTube here)

Limbaugh’s past resume with the NFL includes when he was a part of the ESPN show ‘NFL Countdown’. Limbaugh had barely unpacked his suitcase when he quickly resigned from the show after making inappropriate remarks.

Many people believe Limbaugh’s particular comment about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb showed Limbaugh’s true colors and ESPN graciously accepted the right-wing radio shock jock’s resignation issuing a statement, “We have communicated with Mr. Limbaugh that his comments were insensitive and inappropriate.”

The network went on to say “We accept his resignation and regret the circumstances surrounding this. We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously.”

When ESPN first announced Limbaugh was joining the show, many of us fell out of our seats. What were those producers thinking! It was obvious what they were setting themselves up for.

That aside, one has to wonder if Limbaugh’s past arrest for drugs would effect his chances of getting a team since NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is becoming strict pertaining to drug-related incidents with his players.

With NFL players already speaking out about their lack of desire to play on any Limbaugh-owned team, it’s time for the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell to close the door on this shock-jock radio host before this controversial issue spins out of control.

Favre Defeats Packers 30-23 on MNF

MINNESOTA – Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre won the first round of his bout against his former Green Bay Packer team favre-vikingson the Monday Night Football national stage when his Vikings won 30-23.During post-game interviews, Favre admitted he entered the game “as nervous as I have ever been before a game.”

Favre who unmercifully dumped the Vikings just two days before training camp this summer, later pulled an about-face and reconsidered, coming back to the team at the last minute. Maybe all that disruption was worth it for the Vikings.

Favre who turns 40-years-old later this month, battled his younger counterpart Aaron Rodgers in a game that was not totally decided until the final onside kick attempt with less than one minute to play in regulation.

Favre finished 24-of-31 for 271 yards and 3 TDs while Rodgers set a career high in passing yards, finishing 26-of-37 for 384 yards. Rodgers also tossed for one TD and an interception.

The much-anticipated rematch will be played on Lambeau Field in Green Bay on November 1st.

Couple Caught on Video Having Sex in Dallas Cowboys Stadium

DALLAS – Since the Dallas Cowboys are starting this season looking like the league’s underachievers, what better way xxxto get back into the headlines than to have a couple wearing 88 Irvin jerseys get caught on video humping away in a bathroom stall in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

The video has been viewed by more than 400,000 people on Deadspin.com and according to the Dallas Observer sports blog, Jerry Jones may have been one of those viewers.

The couple must have put in a decent performance since they were greeted with a standing ovation by bystanders when they exited the stall.

Some are referring to the act as the ‘Split Wide 88′ play or the ‘Deep Route, Give-and-Go’.

The way the Cowboys offense has sputtered out as of late, this ‘offensive’ move may have been the best penetration anyone wearing a Dallas jersey made that day.

NFL Update: Stafford Injured, Titans 0-4, Broncos 4-0

Hottest news this NFL weekend includes the Detroit Lions No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford’s knee injury.

In a 48-24 loss in Chicago, Stafford showed several signs of why he was touted as a No. 1 when he orchestrated Photo: Andre J. Jackson DFP several long scoring drives of over 70 yards against the banged-up Bears defense including one 98 yard drive for a touchdown.

But the show came to an abrupt end late in the game when Stafford took a sack then lay on the grass, clutching his knee in pain. Stafford limped off the field and spent the rest of the game with his knee wrapped in ice while veteran Daunte Culpepper took the remaining snaps.

ESPN reported that Stafford’s injury was a dislocated kneecap that popped back in while he was on the sideline and the injury is expected to sideline him for one or two weeks.

After starting out 3-0, Mark Sanchez, New York Jets quarterback and second slinger taken in last year’s NFL Draft finally had his rookie break-out game throwing three interceptions in a 24-10 road loss in New Orleans. Before the loss, Sanchez’ three straight wins included an upset victory against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Darren Sharper returned one of Sanchez’ errant throws 99 yards to the house and that 14-point swing was too much for the young quarterback and his Jets to overcome. The Saints went on to win 24-10.

In other surprising news the Tennessee Titans fell to 0-4 while the Denver Broncos improved to 4-0 with their 17-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
