ATLANTA – It isn’t often I am hoping for a tie in anything related to sports but one rare exception was the AP 2008 NFL Coach-of- the-Year race that I had been anxiously awaiting. It appears that a majority of the 50 AP writers who voted felt the same way.

The revolving door to NFL head coaching positions has been spinning out of control since the end of last season with 11 head coaching changes occurring and several more being anticipated.

MIAMI – Four NFL teams took a gamble hiring rookie head coaches before the season started and the moves paid off for three of those teams who find themselves with 11-5 records and gearing up to take the field this weekend in the playoffs.

DETROIT – After masterminding the incredible one-year turnaround, converting the Miami Dolphins from a 1-15 laughing stock of the NFL to the AFC East division champs, Bill Parcells is said to be leaving the Miami Dolphins if the sale of the team goes through next month.
Parcells is a perfect fit for William Clay Ford and the Detroit Lions for many reasons.

The Vikings’ Ryan Longwell nailed a 50-yarder with just five seconds on the clock to defeat the New York Giants 20-19 and John Casay buried a 42-yarder through the uprights with just one second left on the clock for the Carolina Panthers 33-31 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Casay’s kick earned the Panthers the NFC South division title and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

NEW YORK – Heading into Week 17 in the NFL, it’s time to give serious thought to who may be voted the AP NFL Offensive Rookie-of-the-Year for 2008.
Last year’s voting was cut and dry with Minnesota Viking Adrian Peterson running away with the honors but this year’s rookie crop is overflowing with a smorgasbord of talent.

NEW YORK – Selections were announced for the NFL Pro Bowl game on Tuesday and here’s a quick run-down. The N.Y. Jets had the most selections with seven and QB Brett Favre who leads the league in interceptions is on that list.
