Maryland Police Brutally Beat Student (Video)

Police in Maryland responded to a student skipping down the street celebrating the University of Maryland basketball victory over Duke by severely beating the defenseless kid with nightsticks. Here’s that video:

This unprovoked attack that was caught on video has led to a suspension of one officer and according to the police chief; the other two will receive pink slips.maryland terps fans

Just when you thought the “Rodney King” days were well over these officers behave in decade-old fashion taking whatever anxieties they have out on this innocent student celebrating his team’s win.

Since the video became public and was presented by the Associated Press, state prosecutors have joined the FBI in investigating the case.

Charges against the officers are expected.

The way the involved officers falsified documents in an attempt to cover up the beating adds to this appalling scenario.

Big Ben’s Meat Still in the News

PITTSBURGH – Ben Roethlisberger’s meat remains in the news.

Ty Ballou, the owner of PLB Sports, told the New York Times he is severing ties with Roethlisberger and will no longer bens-beef-jerky-reddistribute Big Ben’s Beef Jerky. Lately it appears Ben needs little help in doling out any goods related to meat.

Ballou is said to be an avid Steelers fan and also told the newspaper he is disgusted by the allegations made against Roethlisberger in a Georgia sexual assault case.

Although the Georgia D.A. refused to press charges on the Steelers quarterback and the player did read an apology in front of the cameras, Ballou decided to terminate the contract:

“I can’t imagine anyone touching Ben Roethlisberger. Enough is enough. I hope there is a suspension,” said Ballou. “At some point in time, Ben has got to put himself in the right position and understand what it means to be a celebrity, a quarterback, a Steelers player.”

Ballou’s website lists many other athletes as endorsers for his products like Joe Greene, Kurt Warner, Nolan Ryan and Terrell Owens but the details surrounding Big Ben’s personal meat at the Capital City Bar in Georgia was the last straw and too much for him to handle.

“We’ve made a lot of money together. I’m leaving a lot on the table by terminating this contract. Even thought there were no criminal charges, there are just enough issues here that it’s the best interests of PLB Sports to break ties.”

Just curious, was the jerky sold in mini bites or jumbo size?

NHL Chris Chelios Sentenced in DUI Case (VIDEO)

NHL player Chris Chelios avoided any possible jail time when prosecutors dropped a DUI charge against him. Here’s the video of his sobriety test that got him arrested just blocks from his Chicago home in December 2009:

The judge presiding in the case did convict the Atlanta Thrashers player of improper lane usage and speeding.

Chelios, shown in his mugshot here, was sentenced on Wednesday to six months of conditional discharge and fined $500 fine, which is barely equivalent to a few shifts of ice time.

The 48-year-old Chicago native is an iron man in the NHL having played in more games than any other American-born player, donning Montreal Canadians, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wing and Atlanta Thrashers colors.chris chelios mugshot

Known as a leader in the locker room, he won three Stanley Cups and was a three-time winner of the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman.

“I want to put this behind me and learn from it,” Chelios said after the verdict.

Currently, Chelios is playing back in Chicago after the Thrashers sent him back to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League shortly after this incident.

Ex-Lions Rogers Slammed With $6.1 Million Judgement

DETROIT, Mich. – Former Detroit Lions receiver and Michigan State Spartan star Charles Rogers (pictured in one of charles rogers mugshothis mugshots on the right) was ordered by a judge to repay an astounding $6.1 million back to the Lions, but you gotta wonder, where a guy like Rogers is gonna get that kinda cash at this point of his life.

After stumbling out the gate and spending a majority of his first few seasons injured and on the sidelines in Detroit, the team suspended Rogers for substance abuse in 2005 then was canned by the team the following season.

The second overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Rogers is a classic example of tremendous talent being flushed down the toilet and is one of the biggest busts to ever come out of MSU (Google Tony Mandarich).

Since Rogers’ release, the organization has been trying to recoup two-thirds of his $9.1 million signing bonus and finally got the ruling they were hoping for.

U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook agreed with an NFL arbitrator saying the amount must be repaid.

Although the Lions’ attorney refused comment after the decision, Michael Cafferty, a lawyer for Rogers, says his client would like to play football in Canada and share some of his pay with Detroit.

In and out of trouble much of his career, Rogers at one time was believed to have retired his bong but later was found out cold at the wheel of his running vehicle, sitting at a stoplight. In January he was sentenced to 93 days in jail for violating a court order to stay sober and that wasn’t the first sentence thrown at the player (Google: Biggest draft busts in the NFL).

Cleveland Browns Shaun Rogers

Never has dealing out a Bitch-Slap-of-the-Week been as easy as this week’s backhander that is heading in the direction of Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers. Days ago, Rogers was held at the Hopkins Airport near Cleveland then arrested after attempting to carry a concealed loaded firearm through airport security.shaun rogers mugshot

According to the Cleveland Plains Dealer, the police report said the semiautomatic handgun was cocked on safe mode with seven bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber.

After all the over-publicized incidents concerning athletes and weapons over the past year, with two of the offenders, NFL’s Plaxico Burress and NBA’s Gilbert Arenas actually getting jail time, you would think Rogers wouldn’t “forget” his loaded gun was in his bag.

SLAP! There’s a healthy full-on Bitch-Slap. SLAP! And that’s the sound of the cuffs deservingly being slapped onto the wrists of Rogers for this unforgiving incident.

Rogers, now a member of Jocks Behind Bars, has since pleaded not guilty and apologized to his fans and the organization explaining he did not mean to take the gun into the airport.

Burress did not mean to shoot himself in the leg outside the New York nightclub with his loaded concealed weapon and Arenas regrets having his artillery stashed in his locker at the arena in Washington but they both had to face the music.

Almost certain to face a suspension for this incident from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Rogers was previously suspended in 2006 for four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy while playing for the Detroit Lions.

While Browns new president Mike Holmgren issued a statement saying the team “will continue to gather additional information, and until the legal process has taken its course, we will reserve any further comment.” Sports Climax is issuing this statement, SLAAPP!

That’s the sound of a Bitch-Slap-of-the-Week and choosing you, Mr. Rogers was as sure as a Lebron James slam-dunk.

Race Tightens For NHL East Final Playoff Spots

As the regular season winds down for the NHL, the Eastern Conference current playoff standings are as cluttered as aDevils Thrashers Hockey pack-rat’s closet. After tallying the most recent scores, Montreal, Philadelphia and Boston all have 82 points and the Atlanta Thrashers are right on the doorstep with 80.

Last night while the Bruins picked up an important two points after getting a goal from Patrice Bergeron with just 18.3 seconds left in overtime to earn a 1-0 victory over their rival New Jersey Devils, the Thrashers picked up two with a 3-2 win in Toronto.

After the Bruins beat the Devils for the first time all season, Bergeron spread the credit. “It was a huge effort from everyone,” said Bergeron. “We need it. It’s in our hands. If we worry about ourselves and do the job, we shouldn’t worry about anybody else. We’ve got find a way to get that energy, that effort. We know it’s a tough schedule but no one feels sorry for us.”

The tough schedule he is referring to is the one that includes two road games against the Washington Capitals.

“We’re fighting for our lives right now,” said Bruins coach Claude Julien. “Look around the league tonight. Teams that are chasing us also won. Every game has to be about desperation.”

Thrashers’ forward Colby Armstrong also commented on the tight race for the final playoff spots. “We know what the schedule is. Five games left and we’ve got some tough teams coming up. It’s really close.”

Like the Bruins, the Thrashers also will face some strong opposition that includes the Capitals twice and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the final game of the season.

LeBron James puts on a show with Triple-Double in Win

Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James put on a show in a 113-101 victory over the Detroit Pistons at the Palace in Auburn Lebron JamesHills, Michigan.

After scoring only five points in the first half, James came out after the break and took over the game, finishing with a triple-double; 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. It was James’ 4th triple double of the season.

Fifteen of those points would come in the 4th quarter during a 22-10 game finishing run.

The win improved the Cavs record to (53-15) while the Pistons who were a force over the past decade fell to a dismal (23-45). The Pistons continue their spiral and have dropped three in a row and eight out of the last ten games.

James, who added a nice piece of hardware to his cabinet after winning the NBA MVP award in 2009, still is in pursuit of an NBA title. James is a free agent after this season and the organization has brought in several players over the years trying to find the right chemistry to bring a title to Cleveland.

ESPN Erin Andrews’ Stalker Gets Maximum 2 1/2 Year Sentence

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – U.S. District Judge Manuel Real threw the book at Michael David Barrett, giving the voyeur the Sexy Erin Andrews Photomaximum sentence allowed by law for shooting nude videos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews.

Barrett who is from the Chicago area, will spend the next 2 ½ years behind bars. The videographer plead guilty back in December to stalking Andrews, following her to three cities obtaining the voyeuristic videos that were taped through peepholes then attempting to sell them to the TMZ.

While the nude videos were being shown on several sites on the Internet, the New York Post New York Post Erin Andrews Covercovered the story and included several graphic naked images of Andrews taken from the videos.

At the time, ESPN responded to the paper’s coverage by banning all New York Post reporters from appearing on their programming.

Andrews encouraged the judge to sentence her stalker to more than the 27 months he had formally agreed to prior to the hearing and the judge having the authority to add to that amount, did just that.

“You violated me and you violated all women,” Andrews told Barrett in the courtroom. “You are a sexual predator, a sexual deviant and they should lock you up. Thirty months isn’t enough.”

Barrett admitted renting hotel rooms right next to Andrews and shooting two videos of her while she stood naked, fixing her hair in the mirror.

“There are no words to tell Ms. Andrews how sorry I am for what I’ve done to her,” Barrett said. “I hope someday she can forgive me.”

“It’s my body on the Internet,” Andrews said. “I’m being traumatized every single day for what he did. This will never be over for me.”

The sentence also includes supervised probation for three years after his release and any stays in hotel rooms must be approved by his probation officer. He was also ordered to shell out $5,000 in fines and $7,366 in restitution.
