“The Three Stooges” return to the NFL

While the NFL has lost several key players to injury this season including Packers’ RB Ryan Grant, Colts DB Bob Saunders and Broncos LB Elvis Dumervil, the league is welcoming back “The Three Stooges” who are returning after serving four-game suspensions.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returns to his team joining wide receiver Santonio Holmes who is back with the Jets and linebacker Brian Cushing last year’s rookie defensive player of the year who rejoins his Texans in Houston.

Roethlisberger was serving a four-game ban imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after accusations evolved accusing the slinger of sexual assault during an alcohol-filled night of partying in Georgia during the offseason.

Big Ben was never formally charged with a crime but with his meat staying in the news and giving the league another “black eye”, the Commish’ decided to sit him for a quarter of the season; citing the NFL’s “personal conduct policy”. Can’t blame Goodell when accusers are describing events that occurred in public on official police documents with lines like, he “came back with his penis out of his pants.”

Roethlisberger has been chomping at the bit, literally, anticipating his return and commented on the Steelers who have started the season 3-1 and occupy the top spot in the AFC North Division:

“I have no fingernails left. It was hard. . . to watch them at home [on television]. I was on the edge of my chair, trying to keep busy. It was tough, but it was fun watching them win.”

Ben should have salvaged those fingernails ‘cause after losing that bunch of millions, it may not be in his budget to do a full manicure by Sunday. He could always opt for a set of Lee press-on nails, they’re a little cheaper and if one breaks during the game, the trainer can always glue another on during a 30-second timeout.

Another “Stooge”, Cushing, 133 tackles last season, was the biggest name of the three linebackers suspended for performance-enhancing drugs at the start of the season after he was benched by Goodell for testing positive for a fertility drug called HCG. Although not an actual steroid itself, HCG can be used to hide steroid use and alter test results.

Cushing tried defending his test results saying he failed the tests due to overworking and excessive training but that didn’t cut it with the league so he was required to sit his four games out.

Cushing should have gotten another four games thrown on top of the first four just for thinking the league and fans are that frickin’ dumb! And I have a HUGE question here. . . fertility drug! What kind of shit is that!

On to the final “Stooge”, Holmes is most remembered for his highlight reel catch in the corner of the end zone that iced the Super Bowl win for the Steelers against the Arizona Cardinals a few seasons ago.

Star or not, Mr. Rooney, owner of the Steelers, wanted the player out so Holmes was traded from the Steelers to the New York Jets, a holding cell for other misfits around the league. Holmes, who has had several other run-ins throughout his young career, was suspended for four games under the NFL substance abuse policy. This weekend will be the first time Holmes is suiting up for his new team. They face the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

BTW, the Steelers, Texans and Jets are all 3-1 without “The Three Stooges” and all three players are expected to play and possible even start this weekend.

Jackie Stallone Exclusive Interview

Jackie Stallone is a world-known astrologer and psychic who has appeared on several television shows including Howard Stern, Jay Leno, Geraldo and Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling to name just a few. We caught up with the zany, high-spirited lady who played the character Mama Stallone on the GLOW television show back in the 80’s.

Besides catching us up on the latest between her and her GLOW friends from the past, she gave us some insight on her son Sylvester Stallone and grandson Sage.

What GLOW producer was always trying to make it with the GLOW wrestlers? Which wrestler did Sylvester’s son Sage send flowers to on a regular basis? What did Sly think of his mother climbing into the ring and becoming a part of the GLOW show?

She answered those and a bunch of other questions for our staff. Also check out our exclusive interview with the sexy girls from GLOW–Hollywood, Americana and Little Egypt here.

SC: HI JACKIE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS INTERVIEW.

Thanks for having me. Did you get that email I sent. We can just do all these questions over the phone.

SC: OKAY. WE’RE FINE WITH THAT. LET’S GET STARTED THEN. (PAUSE) IS IT TRUE YOU WERE A MEMBER OF THE FLYING WALENDAS? IF SO, HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU DID THAT?

That is true. I was in the circus. But I don’t give the age. How old was I? Sixteen.

SC: HOW DID YOU END UP GETTING ON GLOW?

The funniest thing is you asking ‘getting on GLOW’, I was part of the production. They all like to take claim. Matt [Cimber] just basically was hired to help out with some of the stuff and he was instrumental in raising some of the money from [Meshulam] Riklis I mean he really didn’t have a hell of a lot to say he was really just a lamb. Nobody wanted him.

I wrestled all my life as a teenager. Loved wrestling. My father trained me to be a wrestler. He was a lawyer but a physical fitness buff so he’d hire these people to work out with him then they would work out but if they didn’t show up I was his partner so wrestling was nothing to me.

I’ve got pictures of me with boxing gloves on back then.

SC: DO YOU HAVE PICTURES LIKE THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE?

Yeah. They’re hanging on the wall. I will have to take them out of the frame basically. I was always in boxing gloves when other girls were looking pretty and I had to get out of bed and toss a medicine ball.

My dad was a fitness buff. Charles Atlas trained with us. That rubbed off on me.

I raised my kids, Sylvester and Frankie, in a gymnasium, I owned one. Barbella’s in Washington, D.C. My kids would have to come to the gym and work out all the time and help me clean it up.

We made a living at the gymnasium, lifting weights and teaching wrestling. Thing is my kids, when I was on the cover on Time Magazine with a pair of boxing gloves, they were fit to be tied because Sylvester was a movie star by then but I didn’t care.

This was a lifestyle for me so it was only natural for me to get into wrestling. I was always around physical fitness and so have my kids and they’re an example of it today.

SC: AS A MANAGER ON GLOW YOU PLAYED THE MAMA STALLONE CHARACTER. WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE WRESTLER ON THE SHOW?

I kind of liked them all. The funniest thing of all is Mount Fiji. [She] was the biggest of all but my grandson Sage at twelve, of course Sylvester would never let him out of the house without a guard, I’d take him there and he would love it. But he fell in love with Fiji for some reason and he didn’t know how to tell her.

So [Sage] took his father’s credit card and was always sending flowers on that credit card. So one day [Sylvester] gets ahold of the bill and said ‘What the hell’; he thought I was doing it. I said Sage has got a crush on some of the wrestlers.

SC: SAGE WAS SENDING FLOWERS BACK THEN. THAT’S FUNNY AS HELL.

Sage liked her and Hollywood (shown here in a recent photo). Those girls were always nice to him. They’d put themselves out more than the others.

Photo/Jon Abeyta

SC: WHEN WE INTERVIEWED HOLLYWOOD SHE ACTUALLY SAID THAT SAGE HAD A CRUSH ON HER.

Oh he did. He said those were the best years of his life. His father threw a fit because he was a movie star and it didn’t look good for a Grandmother to behave like this, but I still behave that way.

SC:  SO WHAT DID SLY SAY WHEN HE HEARD YOU WERE GONNA PLAY A CHARACTER ON GLOW? WAS HE SUPPORTIVE AT ALL?

No never. Are you kidding! Getting carried on the mat, bounced around. Just the whole involvement but I was obsessed with the job.

[Sylvester] hated the idea because he just thought it wasn’t the thing for a mother to do especially since he was a star and women didn’t do those things those days. You know that.

But I did and he shouldn’t be surprised because I raised him in the ring at Barbella’s.

SC: SO YOU COMMENTED ON MATT CIMBER, HOW ABOUT DAVID MCLANE?

David McLane? I still talk to him on the phone. We want to get this thing [GLOW] going again and I had it pretty well on the road and tried to talk the girls into taking David in because I needed some help to jump start this show again. I had the girls they’re all in their forties now but . . . .  David basically wanted to . . . go his own way and hire a bunch of young girls and train them and it just didn’t work out.

McClane and [Matt] couldn’t get along [on GLOW]. Matt, he was trying to lay the girls and they were there to work.

SC: WAS THERE A LOT OF THAT GOING ON?

Matt was always trying to make all the girls. He was trying to make them think without him they wouldn’t have a job, there was no such thing.

SC: YOU’RE INTO ASTROLOGY AND PSYCHIC THINGS AND STUFF LIKE THAT?

I’ve been into astrology since I was a teenager. I used to teach astrology at the colleges in Philadelphia so I’m not just a fly-by-night, you can go to my website. I’ve got books I’ve traveled the world doing seminars making public appearance.

SC: WE WILL CHECK THAT OUT, WHAT’S THE WEBSITE’S NAME?

www.JacquelineStallone.com  I’ve been around the world. I’m the astrologer for the intellectual people of the world. Politicians who have run for president. I’ve been asked who’s going to win. I haven’t been wrong yet it’s a known fact. I’ve got a tremendous resume for astrology, been one for 50 years.

I’m the one who did the predictions for Clinton, Bush, Gore and Schwarzenegger, I mean these things I went on TV before they were elected. It was big news when I went on Jay Leno and said Hillary would not run, would not get the job then Obama beat her and she wouldn’t even [become] Vice President.

I also said Arnold Schwarzenegger would get elected and never leave politics, he’ll run for Senator next.

Back when I was an astrologer you had to be licensed, it was $1,800 a year you had to take an exam it took years to become one.  Today everyone’s a guru of some sort you know.

I have a tremendous following, I have about, I’d say 3 million a month following. I have a direct mail order for astrologers and customers and keep about 60 people going sending out answers and questions and mail in astrology.

I’ve got books, tapes, exercise tapes.

SC: ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE EXERCISE TAPE WITH RICHARD SIMMONS?

Yes, Silver Foxes, I’m the one who put that together. They wanted to hire my daughter; they wanted someone young and beautiful. It was a big company Lorimar…remember them on TV? They were really big.

I did the Silver Fox setting and trained with Richard Simmons.

Who were the most popular celebrities back then? [Dustin] Hoffman, Sylvester. I got Dustin Hoffman’s father, Farrah Fawcett’s mother . . . and Pacino’s father. I went after all of them and offered them $5,000, then did the choreography.

The thing went triple Platinum in a month. And it still can be seen. Richard Simmons and Silver Foxes. I put that together.

Richard Simmons was a very mean greedy person.

SC: REALLY, HE DOESN’T COME ACROSSS THAT WAY.

No, he comes across as a spiteful little [explicit], you know. He can’t get along with anybody; he’s mean to his help, his employees. He’s just a dreadful person, but the show went on as you would say.

SC: SO YOU TAKE FRENCH CLASSES.

I have a French teacher every other day for two hours. She was born and raised in France and has been in this country about 12 years. I’ve had her for six years now.

SC: YOU STAY ACTIVE THAT’S GREAT.

I never was inactive. I’ve just continued what I’ve done all my life. Sylvester, he’s a fine painter, he’s an architect he writes his own movies he directs them he juggles six things. If you like it you can find time if you don’t like it you won’t. Like I don’t find time to cook because I don’t like it, I don’t have time to clean house because I don’t like it.

SC: SO WHAT’S SLY GOT GOING RIGHT NOW? IS HE IN PRODUCTION ON ANYTHING NEW?

Well his movie The Expendables is number one out there. Are you for real!

SC: I KNEW THAT BUT I WAS TALKING ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON RIGHT NOW? IS HE DOING ANOTHER FILM?

Yeah, Expendables. They want to make a remake of it, you know another one [sequel].

He’s taken all these old over-the-hill actors that were ready for mothballs and made them all action heroes; it’s unbelievable.

In Hollywood when you’re 45 you’re just about over the hill. These people in their 50’s and 60’s they’re jumping and punching and leaping. It’s inspiring.

So he’s writing a sequel.

SC: GETTING BACK TO GLOW ARE YOU IN TOUCH WITH ANY OF THE GIRLS OR MANAGERS ANYMORE?

Yes. Trish and a few of them email back and forth. I’m still hoping [to do another GLOW] somehow but I’d have to have some help…Sage or somebody to work with me because I can’t audition girls.

I’d like to work with Sage. He’s got more money than God and more time than God, Sylvester’s kid.

SC: HOW ABOUT AUNT KITTY?

I still talk to her. I email her and talk to her on the phone. She wants her career back again…she’s 96. She hates her nephew Matt. Aunt Kitty was Jane Mansfield’s aunt.

SC: WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH?

You never know. Every day . . . . you keep your eyes open.

College football polls, AP Top 25

College football rankings are in for the week. With a bunch more games in the books, the AP top ten hasn’t changed drastically over the past few weeks since week one.

With a solid 3-0 start, Arkansas did manage to make it into the Top Ten, taking over the No. 10 spot with Iowa (2-1) dropping down to the No. 18 spot.

It appears several voters are falling out of love with Boise State. After receiving 8 first-place votes two weeks ago, the Broncos managed just a single vote for the No. 1 spot while maintaining their No. 3 ranking behind No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 “The” Ohio State.

The Big Ten and SEC were each represented with six teams in the Top 25 with Alabama, Florida and Arkansas actually occupying top ten spots.

Here’s a brief rundown on the top few in the poll, followed by the list of all Top 25 teams.

No. 1 Alabama – 53 first-place votes and 1,492 points.

No. 2 Ohio State – 5 first-place votes and 1,435 points.

No. 3 Boise State – 1 first-place vote and 1,334 points

As mentioned earlier, the SEC had strong representation in the AP Top 25 with Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, and South Carolina making it to the list.

The Big Ten is represented by Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State. (Nebraska who is joining the Big Ten next season is ranked No. 6)

Associated Press Top 25

  1. Alabama (53) 3-0
  2. Ohio State (5) 3-0
  3. Boise State (1) 3-0
  4. TCU 3-0
  5. Oregon (3-0)

Braylon Edwards busted for DUI

Braylon Edwards was busted for DUI in New York early Tuesday after he was pulled over in Manhattan and blew about double the legal limit for a .16 reading.

Edwards who now officially joins our Jocks Behind Bars is certainly no stranger to run-ins with police.

The 27-year-old New York Jets wide receiver was found guilty in the past for driving 120 miles per hour, was later accused but not arrested for allegedly punching LeBron James friend back in October 2009 and is also said to have been out drinking with Donte Stallworth the evening Stallworth ran into and killed a pedestrian in Florida.

Now if Edwards was partying with Donte until the early morning hours before that tragic incident, you would think he would have learned a valuable lesson about the ill effects and risks of driving drunk.

Apparently not–here’s the mug shot compliments of SportsbyBrooks.com.

Last reports concerning this most recent NFL bust is that Edwards was cuffed, cheesed for a mug shot and was awaiting arraignment.

Many states have an 8-hour waiting period before releasing DUI suspects and if that is the case, since the incident is said to have happened at 5:15 a.m. we may not see Edwards in public until later this afternoon.

The Jets released the mandatory “we’re disappointed” speech earlier today, this one coming from GM Mike Tannenbaum:

“We are very disappointed in Braylon’s actions this morning. The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment. We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures.”

Yeah we’re disappointed too about how it seems some of these guys will never learn.

Kenny McKinley, NFL player found dead

Kenny McKinley, NFL player found dead. Now there is a headline the Denver Broncos hardly need to see after all the tragedy they have encountered over the past few years. McKinley, a wide receiver is believed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in the ‘burbs of Denver.

It’s sad to see how attending teammate’s funerals is becoming a common practice for the Denver Broncos. Cornerback Darrent Williams was the victim of a drive-by shooting on New Year’s Day 2007 and that was followed by running back Damien Nash’s collapse and death after a charity basketball game.

The 23-year-old McKinley, a fifth-round draft choice out of South Carolina, was the Gamecock’s all-time leading wideout (207 receptions, 2,781 yds). Entering his second season in the NFL, he was on the field for 8 games as a rookie last season before banging up his knee and going on IR late in December 2009.

Since that injury, he appeared to have recovered and participated in the Broncos’ offseason workouts but later reinjured the same knee early in this year’s camp and again went on the IR last month.

Denver’s head Coach Josh McDaniels via press release:

“Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

The Broncos will be meeting on Wednesday to get back to business and try to focus on prepping for their game against Indianapolis at Invesco Field on Sunday.

Florida Gators reporter sentenced for child porn

Steve Babik, the longtime University of Florida host of the “TailGator Pre-game Show” and “Urban Meyer Post-game Show,” can now add “convicted of child pornography” to his resume.

Babik, 50 years old, joins our Jocks Behind Bars after he was sentenced by a federal judge in Gainesville to 151 months in jail. The sentence comes after the slink pleaded guilty back in April to one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography.

Prosecutors say between June 2008 and November 2009, Babik was involved with offering child pornography files 326 times from his personal computer. The investigation revealed those files contained children engaging in sex acts with other children and with adults. . . hold on we’re going to vomit. . . okay we’re back.

Once this deviant’s evil-doings were discovered, he didn’t have a chance since the Gainesville P.D., the Alachua County Sheriff Office, the FBI and the Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force all converged on the case.

Babik actually is said to have two children of his own which makes this story even sicker.

Before the trial, a private organization that funds University of Florida athletics earlier released a statement that included:

“We are deeply disturbed by the charges.”

Yes, we all were but Babik is in a better place for a guy like him. Behind bars with no key in sight for more than a decade.

Shannon Sharpe leaves CBS sports after sex allegations

Shannon Sharpe has stepped away from his gig as NFL analyst while he sorts out his recent legal issues.

Those issues include being served a “temporary restraining order” in Fulton County which is the Atlanta area. The female asking and filing for the order is Michele Bundy and copies of those documents can be seen here at SportsbyBrooks.com.

Sharpe, an ex-NFL player, will be expected to answer to the temporary order and possibly appear at the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta on Monday, Sept. 20.

Although Sharpe hasn’t been charged with any crime, he did step away from his desk at CBS Sports after the woman filed the request and accused him of forcing her into sex, stalking her and threatening her.

That hearing on the 20th requires Bundy’s attorney to justify the request for the restraining order.

CBS Sports released a basic statement saying, We accept Shannon’s decision and decline to comment further on a pending legal matter.

Chiefs beat Chargers in downpour on MNF

Philip Rivers Matt Cassel and Jamaal Charles broke in the new Arrowhead Stadium last night, taking the game into the final seconds. By the time it was all said and done, the Kansas City Chiefs held on for the win sending the Chargers packing 21-14.

The highlight reel for the game includes Jamaal Charles 56-yard sprint to the house and Dexter McCluster’s 94-yard punt return. That return is a Chief’s record and gave the team a two-touchdown lead.

Also making the highlights reel was the defense who stood tall in the waning seconds of the game, holding Cassel and the Chargers in a goal line stand. With the Chargers on the six yard line, the Chiefs dug in and the rest is history.

Rivers clearly outplayed Cassel on the stat sheet with the Chargers’ hurler connecting on 22-of-39 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns and Cassel hitting 10-of-22 for just 68 yards and one TD.

Playing the game in a downpour could have been a factor but regardless, the Chiefs defeated a division rival who is also a four-time defending AFC West champion and that’s clearly a confidence boaster for a team that has been dwelling in the cellar of that division for quite a while.

Looks like the Chiefs may like their remodeled home which had $375-million put into it.
