ATLANTA – Now that Vick has officially traded in his electronic home-confinement monitor, he is expected to step up his efforts to resume his pro football career. Having paid his debt, it’s time to allow this man back into society and into the NFL in time for this upcoming season.

NEW YORK – During this past weekend’s NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions failed to take advantage of stealing several first-round projected players that were staring them right in the face. Snagging these prospects would have patched up several of their holes in their defense and guaranteed them several sure starters for next season.

DETROIT – Agent Tom Condon reached across the negotiating table bitch-slapping the hell outta’ Lions GM Martin Mayhew and William Clay Ford to the tune of $78 million with a record $41.7 guaranteed; all for a player that comes out of college wearing a giant question mark on his forehead.

DETROIT – When Matthew Stafford smiles at the camera and explains how he will “do whatever it takes to win in Detroit” I see a naïve young man who is oblivious to the fact he has just been thrown into the Lions’ den. Many teams in the NFL have rosters that would support a long-term development case like Stafford but Detroit is not one of them.

DETROIT – Matthew Stafford is way too high a risk for a team like the Lions with more holes than a sieve. His guaranteed $40 million could cover OL Jason Smith, who like Long is a sure bet Pro Bowl material, and also allow the Lions to pick up a solid free agent defensive player. Two guaranteed starters.

DETROIT – Would the St. Louis Rams who hold the #2 pick effectively have to sign their athlete as if he were the top pick? Although the league has dealt with the issue of a team failing to make its pick in time (Minnesota, 2003) it didn’t involve the big kahuna #1 slot.

The NFL certainly is finding a way to dominate the sports headlines throughout their offseason with marquee players like Terrell Owens and Matt Cassel changing teams while mock draft boards are being shuffled like a deck of cards. NASHVILLE – This is not the first time Washington Redskins All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has ‘stepped’ into trouble. Haynesworth who gained notoriety as a player for his infamous act of purposely stomping on Dallas Cowboy lineman Andre Gurode’s face with his cleats during a nationally televised game in 2006, was indicted on two misdemeanor traffic charges including reckless driving.
