Lindsey Vonn, Enough of the Shin Pain Already!

WHISTLER, B.C. – Please make it stop! Lindsey Vonn’s pain in her shin is starting to become a pain in everyone else’s ass.Lindsey Vonn Falls

Statements and comments about the Olympic skier’s injury are becoming as obnoxious as when a 4-year-old with a tiny knick on their pinky spends an entire week sticking their finger in your face whining, “I got a boo-boo.”

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown pass with a separated shoulder minutes after taking a crushing hit from a 300-pound defensive lineman to win a game against the Cleveland Browns then came back and played through the injury in another game four days later.

Ex-Minnesota Viking lineman Ed White finished an NFL game after breaking his arm, those are inspirational athletes that have played through serious injuries and pain.

Everyone was well aware of Vonn’s injury prior to the Olympics and knew she had to tough it out to compete and that skiing with a deep bruise to the shin would be extremely challenging.

An inspirational story and plot was all laid out. That is until the overabundance of complaints and comments about the injured shin surpassed the intolerable level deflating the inspirational aspects of the story and instead converting it to waterboarding-type torture levels of “Someone please make it stop!”

Like many other Olympic skiers have done in the past, Lindsey Vonn wiped out in the slalom run of the super-combined and was eliminated from yesterday’s event. The spill caused by a common skiing blunder ended Vonn’s bid for her second Olympic medal when she failed to maneuver her ski around a right-hand gate and fell.

With a lot of the media and public burned out on hearing about her injury Vonn again said her shin was “killing me”. She did, however, go on to admit the real culprit in this loss was her mistake.

“The shin wasn’t the reason why I didn’t finish the race,” said Vonn. “It was just because I hooked a tip, and that happens in ski racing all the time. I just wish it wasn’t at the Olympic Games.”

The day did however not end without more attention to the leg. After performing the fastest morning downhill run in the morning, Vonn again referred to her, you guessed it . . . her pain in her shin. “It hurts so bad,” Vonn said. “It’s one thing to do the downhill, but the super-combined is really tough on my shin. I tried as hard as I could.”

Husband Thomas Vonn commented on her injury. “It did play a role in the fact that she hasn’t been able to ski slalom in, like, three weeks,” said Thomas Vonn. “She had the mindset of going for gold and it’s the Olympics. That’s what you’re here for, and she’s capable of winning. So she wanted to go for it, and not ski safe and go for a silver or bronze.”

In another recent whining session, Vonn said, “It’s not good. It’s really hurting and I’m just struggling with it but there’s nothing really I can do. I just have to try to do therapy and try to tough it out today, and then tomorrow will be a good day off.”

“It was a long, long day yesterday, and I didn’t get as much rest as I was hoping for,” she said. “Especially with my shin, I need a little bit more time and therapy to try to get it to feel better.”

And we need therapy to get this redundant, obnoxious ringing in our ears to go away.

Please, make it stop!
