LOUISVILL, KY. – The 136th Kentucky Derby officially has a winner on the books. After several
hours of on-and-off rainstorms muddied the track at Churchill Downs, the 20 horses took their spots and battled the severe conditions with Super Saver coming in ahead of the group with a time of 2:04.45.
After the rain battered the track early Saturday, the normal early morning workouts were postponed early Saturday with trainers opting to trot their horses inside the barns.
At race time, Looking At Lucky was listed as the favorite at 7-1, the longest odds ever for a Kentucky Derby favorite.
Due to the sloppy track conditions the analysts couldn’t agree on predicting the winner.
A late bet of $100,000 was placed on Super Saver at 8-1. After the $100,000 bet was placed, the odds for Super Saver actually moved to match Looking At Lucky at 7-1.
The odds on the Thoroughbreds changed like a shaky stock market over the past few days due to the horrible track conditions.
Placing was Ice Box and also coming in the money at third was Paddy O’Prado.
