CLEVELAND, OH. – LeBron James’ lack of performance coupled with his Cavaliers getting blown out on their home
court Tuesday night by the Boston Celtics is creating the biggest buzz of the week.
With a crucial Game 5 in front of their home crowd, most expected an adrenaline-packed contest but instead were forced to sit through a 120-88 one-sided game where LeBron played like anything but this year’s NBA MVP.
‘King’ James was held without a field goal in the entire first half–that’s not a typo–and finished the game just 3-of-14 from the floor.
The sluggish performance prompted Joe Posnanski of SI.com to write in his Inside the NBA column that James “stunk up the joint” and that is actually one of the nicer descriptions you may find browsing around the internet today.
James clunked shots off the rim all night and nearly invisible on offense, he contributed little on his end of the floor as well, playing sluggish defense while the Celts outscored the Cavs 70-44 in the 2nd half. See Hawks fans, there are other underachievers in the NBA.
The only positive light to come from this 32-point debacle was the fact Shaq was able to contributed 21 points.
Cavs fans booed and decided they needed to “Make it stop!” and piled out of the exits early, prompting this post-game response from the King himself:
“I spoil people with my play; when you have a bad game here or there, you’ve had three bad games in a seven-year career, then it’s easy to point that out.”
Anything short of an NBA Championship this year would be considered a huge fail for James and Cleveland but James still believes he can lead his team back to take this series and he might.
But even if the Cavs battle back and takes Game 6 in Boston and wins Game 7 this weekend back on their home court, they still need to face a rested Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic, the team that eliminated them last year.
Howard has dominated these playoffs, leading his team to sweeps over Charlotte and the Atlanta Hawks, holding a dunk-clinic in the second series while beating the Hawks by a record total 101 points over the four games.
If it comes down to a rematch with the Magic, somebody may need to even out the playing field, maybe stacking the Cavs locker room with pallets of Red Bull and spiking the Magic bench with a chunk of Kryptonite.
