SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco 49ers all-pro linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested on Sept. 20, 2013 after his pickup truck was involved in a single car accident and slammed into a tree.
After residents called to report the crash, San Jose police responded to the incident and arrested Smith for suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.
The 23-year-old Smith posted a $5,250 bail and was released from the Santa Clara County jail after cheesing for the mugshot shown here.
Smith couldn’t have been too baked since he went to practice later that day but since that time, he has left the team and voluntarily put himself into a rehab center.
Great move by the youngster to institutionalize himself since this is his second alcohol related driving arrest. Smith was previously busted for a DUI in Miami in January 2012 but those charges were reduced to reckless driving after he attended a program for first time offenders.
On an NFL note, Smith won the 49ers MVP award last season when he dominated offensive linemen to set a franchise record with 19½ sacks and led his team to the Super Bowl.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 4 and is expected back on the field later this season.
